During her six years on City Council, Cathy has earned the respect of many for her work as a civic leader and public servant. She has been awarded the distinguished Certificate of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities that is “designed to enhance the abilities of elected officials with knowledge and skills to effectively operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds and foster staff and community relationships.”
Cathy Watson understands the complexities of all issues. She possesses critical thinking skills and an aptitude for creative problem-solving. She listens with respect and affords thoughtful consideration to all perspectives before advancing an opinion or decision. She is the City Council liaison to the Ferndale Arts Commission and actively supported the commission’s efforts to involve the community in creating a colorful mural on the water tank at the intersection of Thornton and Vista. She was a stalwart proponent for the construction of a new home for the Ferndale Public Library where she now volunteers her expertise as a former NASA meteorologist and middle school math and science teacher to instruct youth in vitally important STEM education, helping them gain the essential skills for 21st century jobs. (She started the library’s LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Club). She also helped put on the solar eclipse viewing event sponsored by the library and the city.
