Welcome and thank you for visiting the website of Ferndale, Washington Councilmember Cathy Watson.
If you’d like to learn more about me, you will find information on this site about my Council Experience, Community Service, and Background.
I have served on the Ferndale City Council since January 2012 and am currently Mayor Pro Tem, Chair of the Public Works Committee, and Council Liaison to the Ferndale Senior Center. I am also the Ferndale representative to the Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) Board and serve as Chair of the WTA Board of Directors.
I believe that working together as a community enables us to achieve more than we ever could as individuals. That’s why in my years on City Council I’ve focused on listening to and working with residents, business owners, elected officials at all levels, and City staff to build a stronger, more prosperous Ferndale.
A Growing City
Ferndale has grown in so many ways in the 12 years I’ve lived here and we’re going to continue to grow. I don’t think we can completely pull up the drawbridge so no one else can move here, but we do need to take a long, hard look at how many residents our City facilities (roads, wells, water treatment plants, etc.) can provide for.
Leader and Teammate
My more than two decades of leadership and management experience help me work well with others to find solutions to the complex problems facing our community, while also championing individual projects like the new Ferndale Library, the planned Thornton/I-5 Connector, and improved emergency preparedness.
Preserving Family-Wage Jobs
I believe it’s vitally important we preserve our existing family-wage jobs while also working to create more jobs that pay enough so you can own a home and give your kids the opportunities they need to become successful adults.
With the Ferndale Made marketing campaign, I’m fighting to recruit entrepreneurs and manufacturing/agricultural businesses to the Ferndale area, bringing their additional family-wage jobs with them.
Finally, it’s important you know I never have, and never will, make a promise to you I cannot keep, and I will always tell you the truth. Those are my values and I live by them every day.
