Welcome and thank you for visiting the Cathy Watson for Council campaign site!
I’m running to remain on the Ferndale City Council because public service and helping others are two of my core values.
I served our Nation in the Coast Guard (active duty and reserves) and Navy (reserves), as well as at NASA. Now I serve my community as a Ferndale City Councilmember, student mentor, and volunteer.
I believe that working together as a community enables us to achieve more than we ever could as individuals. That’s why during my six years on City Council I’ve focused on listening to and working with residents, business owners, elected officials at all levels, and City staff to build a stronger, more prosperous Ferndale.
Ferndale has grown in so many ways in the 10 years I’ve lived here and I think it’s time we sat down as a community and talked about what kind of town we want to be in five, 10, 20 years. I don’t think we can completely pull up the drawbridge so no one else can move here, but we can take a long, hard look at how many residents our City facilities (roads, wells, water treatment plants, etc.) can provide for.
My more than two decades of leadership and management experience help me work well with others to find solutions to these complex problems facing our community, while also championing individual projects like the new Ferndale Library, the planned Thornton/I-5 Connector, and improved emergency preparedness.
I also believe it is vitally important we preserve our existing family-wage jobs, while always laboring to create new jobs. With the new Ferndale Made marketing campaign, I’m fighting to recruit entrepreneurs and manufacturing/agricultural businesses to the Ferndale area, bringing more family-wage jobs with them.
Finally, it’s important you know I never have, and never will, make a promise to you I cannot keep, and I will always tell you the truth. Those are my values and I live by them every day.
When your ballots arrive in late October, I would be honored to receive your vote so I may continue working for you. I know that together we will make Ferndale a better place to work, raise a family, and thrive as a community.
